Description Shpyrko Group in the Department of Physics and the Institute of Pure and Applied Physics at the University of California, San Diego invites applications for Postdoctoral Scholar position in experimental condensed matter physics, with the funding available beginning July 1st, 2009.

Fields of interest include, but are not limited to development and application of x-ray scattering, spectroscopic and microscopy techniques to investigate structural, electronic and magnetic properties of novel high-temperature superconductors. The candidate is expected to closely interact with other members of collaborative research team (both at UC San Diego and elsewhere) on synthesis of novel thin film and bulk materials.

Applicants should submit a curriculum vitae, a list of publications and contact information for three references to Prof. Oleg Shpyrko via email to oleg@physics.ucsd.edu with subject line: MURI-Postdoc. Please provide a brief 2-3 line summary of your key qualifications, past experience and research interest in the body of email, in place of the cover letter.

UCSD is an EO/AA employer.

NOTES: International Candidates Will Be Considered. Salary will be based on published UC pay scales. Review of applications will begin June 15, 2009 will continue until the position is filled.

Requirements Applicants with specialization in x-ray scattering techniques, synthesis and/or characterization of novel materials and correlated electron materials (particularly high temperature superconductors) will be given the highest consideration. Experience in synchrotron x-ray scattering is highly desirable.

Applicants must hold Ph.D. degree in experimental condensed matter physics, materials physics or closely related discipline and will be expected to supervise students, primarily at the graduate level.

The position is funded via Air Force Office of Scientific Research (AFOSR) Multidisciplinary University Research Initiative (MURI), "Search for New Superconductors", and involves collaborations between UC San Diego (lead institution), UC Irvine, Univ. Madison Milwaukee, Rutgers U., Oak Ridge National Lab and University of Madrid, Spain.
