Postdoc Nanodiffraction
Description The Prof. Shpyrko Group in the Department of Physics and the Institute of Pure and Applied Physics at the University of California, San Diego invites applications for Postdoctoral Scholar position in experimental condensed matter physics, with the funding available beginning July 1st, 2009.
Fields of interest include, but are not limited to development and application of x-ray scattering, spectroscopic and microscopy techniques to investigate structural, electronic and magnetic properties of novel high-temperature superconductors. The candidate is expected to closely interact with other members of collaborative research team (both at UC San Diego and elsewhere) on synthesis of novel thin film and bulk materials.

Requirements Applicants with specialization in x-ray scattering techniques, high temperature superconductors and discovery of novel materials will be given the highest consideration. Experience in synchrotron radiation is highly desirable.

Applicants must hold Ph.D. degree in experimental condensed matter physics, materials physics or closely related discipline and will be expected to teach and supervise students, primarily at the graduate level, conduct an extramurally funded research program.
The position is funded via Air Force Office of Scientific Research (AFOSR) Multidisciplinary University Research Initiative (MURI), "Search for New Superconductors", and involved collaborations between UC San Diego (lead institution), UC Irvine, Univ. Madison Milwaukee, Rutgers U., Oak Ridge National Lab and University of Madrid, Spain.
